Million Dollar Baby and Million Dollar Oscar

Million Dollar Baby is a pathetic drama of an ex-boxer (Clint Eastwood) reluctantly training a poor waitress (Hilary Swank) to be a professional boxer. The film had 7 nominations, with 3 of the nominations referring to star/producer/director Eastwood, resulting in four awards including Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Director, as well as Best Supporting Actor. Besides, the two performance awards showed up the second year running that a Clint Eastwood picture received 2 of the 4 acting Oscars (Sean Penn and Tim Robbins won acting Oscars for Mystic River) - in 6 of the last 10 years, and the Best Picture winners with a central character dying at the end.

Hilary Swank confessed that she nearly died when shooting the film.The actress said she developed possibly fatal blood poisoning when undergoing a strict training program for Million Dollar Baby. She did not pop them after that. For some time the actress even couldn't walk. Her doctor told her that if it reached her heart then that'd be it. But now we can see the results, it wasn't for nothing!
